Are Media, Australia’s #1 women’s lifestyle network, is pleased to announce the appointment of highly respected luxury publishing leader David Meagher, as Editor of Gourmet Traveller, effective Monday 15 September.
In his new role, David will be responsible for leading Gourmet Traveller’s next phase of brand evolution, overseeing the print and digital editorial teams and driving strategic growth across all platforms. He will report to Are Media’s General Manager of Luxury, Nicky Briger.
David will work closely with the broader luxury and travel teams to build out new video and event offerings to elevate Gourmet Traveller’s role as the authority in Australia’s premium food and travel space.
With a track record spanning two decades at the forefront of high-end media, David brings expertise in building premium audiences, leading creative teams, and delivering omnichannel content that inspires both readers and advertisers.
Most recently, as Managing Editor at The Local Project, David scaled multi-platform storytelling across print, digital, video, and social, launched new lifestyle and real estate platforms, and drove significant commercial growth. His 15-year tenure as Editor-in-Chief of WISH at The Australian cemented his reputation for blending editorial excellence with brand-building, cultivating deep relationships with luxury brands.
Throughout his career David has held senior positions across The Australian Financial Review and The Sydney Morning Herald, has written for Belle, Vogue Living and Qantas Magazine, and is a published author of four books.

David will lead a team including Ceri David (Deputy Editor), Cordelia Williams (Digital Editor), Jacqui Triggs (Creative Director), Suzanna Chriss (Copy Editor), Maxwell Adey (Senior Food Editor) and Sam Yates (Senior Designer).
